Bridger Aerospace was selected by the Department of the Interior to operate unmanned aircraft on a call-when-needed basis over active wildfires throughout the United States. Bridger operates the Silent Falcon UAV which is equipped with Ascent Vision’s CM 100 gimbaled sensor.
This system collects aerial data to support wildland fire operations, search and rescue, and emergency management. This is the first UAV contract by the Bureau of Land Management or the United States Forest Service in support of active wildfire management. The first year of UAV operations will determine standard concept of operations (CONOPS) for the drone. Manned aircraft are not allowed to fly low visibility or unnecessarily hazardous conditions over an active wildfire, unmanned systems will be primarily used to provide incident commanders an additional tool for accurate fire intelligence. UAVs will provide infrared and optical imagery that will allow firefighters to attack with real time data.
Bridger is the inaugural customer for the launch of the CL-415 EAF platform, with Viking Air. Bridger’s purchase of 5 CL415EAF Super Scoopers will make it the only full spectrum aerial fire service provider in the nation.
